The Wyzenbeek Fabric Testing Method
The Wyzenbeek Testing method, created by Andrew Wyzenbeek, is a durability test that performs “double rubs” on a test fabric to simulate regular use and determine how many rubs it would take to cause visible damage or breakage to the tested fabric. This is the more popular durability test for fabrics in North America and is usually used on synthetic fibers and vinyl fabrics. While the double rub count can’t predict every aspects of a fabric’s durability, it is a good place to start when considering what fabric would be good for your application. Household furniture fabrics tend to be around 15,000-30,000 double rubs for everyday use in the home. Commercial fabrics tend to start around 50,000 and can exceed 250,000 double rubs.
