Fine Furniture Restoration and Reupholstering - A Corn Upholstery Company Showcase

Fast furniture is everywhere. So much so it feels like it’s all that’s available these days. Cheap materials and particle board put together with a small wrench has become the norm. And while we are all happy to have trendy looking furniture for just a few bucks, we are all a little worse off for it. The amount of waste that occurs from getting rid of prematurely worn and cheap broken furniture takes a toll on our environment as it piles up in our landfills. We at Corn Upholstery believe that quality is what matters most. Cutting corners during manufacturing not only cheapens your furniture, it cheapens your name. Our company could not have survived the last 74 years without a good name and a good product. We believe in making furniture that lasts, so that is why we also believe that the best way to get a new look for your pre-loved furniture is to have it reupholstered and restored.

Reupholstering and restoration have been a part of our DNA since the beginning. Until recently, furniture was of a certain quality and expense that when a particular part of the piece was worn out, the next step was to send it to us and have it recovered or restored. While we have seen less and less furniture needing reupholstering due to the disposable nature of it, we are still in the business of restoration. Most would think that this service would really only apply to antique furniture that still caries that high quality and value, but we have been able to carve out a roll in the industry reupholstering all kinds of projects. Throughout this post we will feature a few pieces that have recently come through the workshop as well as our passion for continuing that tradition of caring for and constructing quality pieces of furniture.

The reason most pieces of furniture need to be restored and recovered is that we just love them too much. They become a part of the family and we find ourselves spending a lot of time enjoying each piece to their fullest. And just like we wouldn’t throw away a member of the family, we also would not think of getting rid of our favorite furniture pieces. Many times these furniture pieces are passed down and become heirlooms. It becomes a great honor and reverence to the relatives that have passed down this furniture to have it restored to its original glory.

Many pieces we receive for restoration and reupholstering have extensive wear-and-tear that is not seen until the piece has been stripped and cleaned. We do our very best to repair all internal structures and supports to ensure that your furniture will perform as well as it did originally. On some occasions the furniture piece may be beyond repair, but you can be assured that we will do everything we can to bring it back, and if not possible, we can then discuss the creation of a custom piece to match the original. Our custom furniture department is capable of creating dozens of custom projects, or your one personalized piece just for you. There is no project too small for us!

We have been at this since 1947. It is this experience that puts us in the best position to handle your precious antiques and values pieces. These photos below of the Corn Upholstery workshop from the 50s show just how long we have been practicing our craft. Our upholstery shop doesn’t look much different these days, except maybe the clothing and hairstyles. The point is, the art of quality upholstery has not changed much over the years. Our experience puts your beloved piece in the best hands possible.
